Why Volunteer?
Volunteers encourage students and inspire them to reach their potential.
Education is a key factor in success, but the need for one-on-one academic support within the Springfield Public Schools is clear. The 2016 dropout rate for SPS students was two and a half times the state average and the four-year graduation rate was only 68.8%, compared with 87.5% statewide. By volunteering, you can help us change those statistics. SSV’s programs provide a comprehensive approach to helping children succeed in school and in life. Combining individualized personal support with academic support helps students build confidence in their abilities, challenges them to a higher level of effort, and increases their feelings of connection to school and community.
Volunteers bring fresh perspectives and enthusiasm into our schools while assisting students, teachers and staff. They encourage students and inspire them to reach their potential. Additionally, volunteers experience a sense of fulfillment and pride in helping to improve our schools for everyone in the community.
