Norma has been mentoring high school students for almost 10 years, helping them grow socially, emotionally and academically.
Name: Norma E. Nunnally
I am a mentor at: Central High School.
I have been a Springfield School Volunteer for: 8 years.
I became a mentor because: I believe that every child deserves an opportunity to be heard without being judged.
By being a mentor I have learned: To be more forgiving and to see progress even in the smallest actions. I have also learned that is not always what you say, but how you say it that makes a difference!
My favorite thing about mentoring is: Seeing the excitement in my mentee’s eyes when she notices my presence. I love to hear all about what she has done and accomplished since our last visit.
Why should another caring person in the community join you as a mentor? It is important to give back. Not just giving back your time, but to share the knowledge and experiences that molded you into the caring person you have become.
