Mentoring Program

2012 General Colin Powell on mentoring.mp3

Join with youth mentors and mentoring programs around the country and help inspire others to learn about mentoring and how they can make a difference in the life of a child.   Mentoring  focuses attention on the need for mentors, as well as how each of us—individuals, businesses, government agencies, schools, faith communities and nonprofits—can work together to increase the number of mentors to assure brighter futures for our young people.  Invest in the future. Mentor a child.

You can make a difference in as little as an hour a week. Contact Springfield School Volunteers at 413-787-7015 or volunteer@sps.springfield.ma.us.

The mission of the Springfield School Volunteers School-Based Mentoring Program is to match students in the Springfield Public Schools with caring adult volunteers who serve as positive role models and promote academic achievement and consistent attendance at school. Mentors can provide students with a broader outlook and help them to become contributing members of their schools and their communities.

"Mentoring is a structured and trusting relationship that brings young people together with caring individuals who offer guidance, support, and encouragement aimed at developing the competence and character of the mentee."
